Can't Resist

I'm a fanatic when it comes to keeping the most up-to-date software installed on the computer. If it's an extensively used application (ZoneAlarm - the award winning firewall) or even updates for one's Anti Virus and/or Anti Spyware, you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm on it.

Today, while getting myself the new WinAmp 5.24 release I saw a promotional system utility called Active Security Monitor, an AOL product. A complete system analysis along with recommendations in a nice and small ICQ sized window.
OK, why not try it out? I haven't really tried out AOL stuff before anyway. So it does take up a substantial fraction of your RAM -- 20 MB, but it breaks up the analysis into the following fragments --
  1. Firewall
  2. Virus protection
  3. Spyware protection
  4. Windows & browser
  5. Wireless security
  6. P2P software
  7. PC Utilities
After carefully studying each parameter, it forms a performace grade and then an overall score in terms of percentage, which specifies the level of safety your computer currently supports.

This is how it should be:

> Windows Defender
> AVG Free Anti-Virus
> Mozilla Firefox
> CCleaner
> AdBlock+ Extension for Firefox
> SpyBot Search & Destroy
> Ad-Aware Free
> FreeRAM XP Pro

They're all free. They're all light. No piracy, no cracks, no expiry. No nothing. Just add a little common sense while browsing and you're absolutely safe.

I know exactly how that feels. I even go as far as acquiring the latest Corel, Macromedia or Whatnot suite only to know that I'm probably never going to use it in a lifetime. But so as long as I have it when I need it.

You don't use the Macromedia Studio suite?

Shame, Nikhil, SHAME!

haha, well so as long as my point was understood. I use more programs than my poor office computer can handle apparently.
