I’m back.

When I was thinking about placements last year, I knew I wanted a job that didn’t let me get comfortable. This could mean several things – a bad boss, a dull profile, a 3rd grade company or similar such things. But an external factor in the form of life outside the home city is what I wanted. This might reiterate some of my thoughts on the Global Resident and frequent readers may hit by the same as they follow this thread – pardon me for the redundancy mate. Nevertheless, the acclimatisation to a different kind of people, culture, lifestyle, climate, norms and maybe even commonplace issues like food, transport and housing rents moves an outsider (like you and me) steadily into a comfort zone.

Over time, you start behaving in accordance with this cultural framework & you find yourself slowly merging with the local mix. I noticed this development today, when I was attempting to catch an auto to go to Lajpat Nagar. Within 15 seconds, I had bargained into paying an amount which was later confirmed to be the same amount that was displayed on the meter. Yes, I also managed to get him to run his meter for the journey. I felt good - a mini achievement of sorts.

I don’t know if three months is enough time to give me the right or anyone for that matter, to claim that this city is now, known. However, it does provide a sense of satisfaction – one that is generative in nature and carried forward....
