I love reading books on management related topics. I was lucky to be able to select an elective of the same - namely Business Process Reengineering during my final year in engineering. And then followed it up next semester with Supply Chain Management.
The book that got me all started on it was Business Process Reengineering by Michael Hammer & James Champy. Its an eye opener for all mgmnt professionals who are looking to stay ahead in todays ever changing environment and the enormous benefits one can obtain from "revamping" the corporate system. Some classic examples have been cited. So very practical.. a MUST read.
Another fantastic book is Pepsi To Apple by John Sculley, a marketing genius. His amazing ideas did wonders for Pepsi who beat Coke hands down sometime around 1970. Then he moved over to Apple and partnered Steve Jobs in many successful product launches and their respective sales. Great stuff.
Last evening I went to Crosswords with Vivek and Mhatre. I had this voucher worth Rs.1000 gifted to me by an uncle and I was determined to redeem it for at least one book. There were scores of mgmnt books lined up along the shelves, I really couldnt make up my mind which one to purchase. Vivek found a good one first - "Hey Whipple, Squeeze this" which is a lowdown on the art of advertising and its analysis. Nice illustrations. Thats my next buy I think.
I picked up "The Goal" ,a fiction book on this plant managers dilemma over his senior's demand - a seemingly impossible task of turning around the plant operations in a span of 3 months to recover from a poor performance or ....welcome the pink slip.
Of course, after a careful analysis of the situation, Alex Rogo performs a series of neatly planned moves and triumphs in the end. Well.. Im just into the first 20 odd pages. And resume I shall ... now.
