SP #2

In the morning, I went to Malad. James Clinic appointment @ 11.30am. So I took a train amidst several stinky yet helpless lads in the 2nd class compartment. Reached Malad west. Found the joint easy. It was humid though yea.. especially at that time of the day.

Waited at James clinic cuz the doc hadn't arrived. Alright.. thats cool. It's always better to be there at least ten minutes before time. So the doc came. And he saw me. And he motioned for me to wait. A small clinic, this one consisted mostly of lower income group. There were too many people for the seating arrangement provided. It became half a local really. But its ok. And so I continued my ... wait.

Patients who'd just come in went and got their checkups done before I got the chance to go in. It kinda got to me. But it made sense. This was an ICU.. just like the dozens of other ICU's I was going to go and attend. Some of these would be in unknown cities. My interview took exactly 2minutes. No jokes. For the 1.5 hours that I was put to wait. That was the only frustrating part. You know.. I dont mind waiting.. but come +ve or -ve .. the feedback was so abrupt.

Here's the catch. I was to get to Byculla by 1.30pm latest to meet another doctor @ Gaskin Hospital. So I make a quick call to my reference doctor. Tell her I'm at Malad but I'll be there pronto. She replies with a hesitant "will do". And I run like the wind. But it's not enough. Trains' arent always on time. Luckily, I have myself a coupon booklet. Very useful if you dont have a pass. And you have doctor's appointments.

So I hop onto a train and get to Andheri. Screw the ticket punching for Dadar I saw to myself. Wait impatiently for a welcome Dadar fast on P5. It comes 10min late. Time is 1.12pm. I need speed. Lots of it. I get to Dadar and just my luck. TC around the corner. I make my way right through him.. with a straight face. Safe. Byculla comes and no cab is ready to take me to Gaskin. I walk all the way there. I reach at 1.45pm. The consultant I had to meet has long gone. Damn.
So I head back to Dadar half hour later after I've met a few nurses and doctors. Consultant has her clinic there. I must have her interview today. I had pumped myself up for this day. I go there. She's not busy. Good.

I apologise for my delay causing her a waste of time. She smiles and offers me a seat. I take it hastily. Legs need it. And that's when ... things change.

She tells me her son was also from Somaiya.... engineering that is. So I pitch in with an echo. She says Mech. So do I. My good friend's mom as it turns out to be. Wow. Jackpot. Outta nowhere.
And after a nice discussion (and learning session too) I take leave and sprint to Dadar. A Grant Road appointment awaits. I'm late again. I was asked to be there @ 4pm. It is now exactly 4.12 pm. And I'm punching tickets at Dadar. Btw.. some stations have yanked out the ticket punching machines. Bastards. Now it's more like self service as you slam the dated stamp and station onto each ticket that you need to travel. Sucks.

Grant Road comes. Cab it I do. Mr. Yuta isn't displeased at my late arrival. It's cool. But formalities at the Kana Hospital make it a tedious affair anyhow. And then to top it off, the guy doesn't know what I'm talking about. So basically I'm meeting the wrong fella. Ok. I go to the counter and ask for a doc who's definitely related to my line. I get her name. I ask for a meeting.

Tomo I'm going to Grant road again. And then I have two other interviews in the day. Sounds good. I like running around. Time is money. And to be quick on your feet and make the best of the time available is what I'm learning. I'm enjoying it. But I need to squeeze out more time.

Too much running around for me...too much of a field job. Am used to sitting in an AC room in front of my machine, checking mails and playing with XL.

Whose mom was it anyway?
