SP #3

A thorn in the bush.

Made my way to Melvin Medico Hospital. The doctor was not very keen to meet me. She'd even got ticked off that I'd called her on her personal number. All this after getting through via a known source. Anyway, so I was asking around for her at the hospital and as luck would have it, I ended up asking her. She took me to her cabin and sat down, rushing through the formalities. But there was some information she couldnt give me, since it was the purchase dept. that had the details.

So i went around to the HR dept located in the adjacent building. Having come during lunch hours I had to wait 15 odd minutes before the HR manager got back from his grub.

He came back and I entered his room. He paused for a moment after seeing my case, then called in a senior person. They both shot each other a glance after going through the authority letter from my institute and the big man said, "I'm sorry. We cannot entertain you. There seems to be a concealed motive here. This letter seems too innocent. I guess there must be a pharma company behind this, providing you with a sponsorship or something."

Both pairs of eyes were now fixed on me. Hmmm.. this was a tough call. I put it across to them as a genuine case of research and nothing more. I didn't want to mention that other hospitals had had no problem. That to me, was an ineffective defensive move. So I bluffed them by asking them to confirm with the institute if they felt it was necessary to ascertain the 'real' objective. (Straight faced all the time obviously). They considered it for a few seconds before calling it off.

And that was that. Melvin gets a void on the tally.
