With all the buzz generated for the much talked about Cheeni Kum, I spent my Sunday evening at the cinema.
Bacchhan is a master chef running his restaurant in a posh area of London. He's the perfectionist sorts - angling towards the zero error funda with his subordinates. His attention to every detail along with a touch of paranoia about his work standards keeps him feared by his lot. Along comes this lady ( Tabu re.. who else ) who rejects one of his Hyderabadi delicacies and comes back another day with her own version of it for him to taste. Cupid strikes somewhere in between but it's not how it sounds, it's quite alright. The movie has it's dry humour, puns and the catchy one liners cropping up here and there. Overall, I'd say go watch it. It's offbeat with a nice flavour to it.
There's just one thing I hated about the movie. This 6 year old girl who's ( unfortunately ) suffering from cancer is Bacchhan's neighbour. They're buddies from generations apart. And she's got that typical bhaai lingo with the works. And she's dressed quite shabbily compared to Amitabh's rich suits and thick overcoats. I don't think they wanted her to look that way. And her mind is like a 20 year old. But yea she's 6. She talks endlessly of wanting to watch adult movies and advises her 55+ years senior on the ways of life.
Here's the last nail in the coffin for this character - her name is "Sexy". Did I forget to mention that she's merely 6 years old?
