The word mentor is interpreted as - A wise and trusted guide and advisor.
Mentors are also classified into various categories. To state the obvious, our parents are in effect our longest associated mentors. You may have a mentor at the workplace. Or you had one during your cricket summer coaching camp back in school. Count another during the numerous tuitions in the college years. You looked up to all of them. Well, almost all.
It sure feels good about having such a person around. A frame of mind noted to be calm and composed, at the same time capable of overcoming any jack-in-the-box situations with the least amount of worry. Such people rub off positive aspects on others, providing some form of motivation and energy to overcome hurdles. And don't they always give great ideas/points for us to use?
A friend of mine SG, is one of the most down to earth blokes you'll find around. Oozing practicality and ringing with positivity, SG's been the source of new hope and a fresh feel to the scenarios I've been facing. No no.. I haven't faced a crisis (touchwood). But when you're feeling like there's a piece missing in the puzzle and you need to know how to find it.. well.. SG is the guy for you. He won't give you complete solutions or answers. But he'll mention a point or two that prove to be key ingredients for the dish you're trying to prepare & present. The art of being a super consultant (or mentor) is to understand the client's problem, assess it and produce a recommendation that gives him new light. All in good time. I think SG's great at that. He's always been so in my opinion. Thrice over I've gone to him for guidance and come back to my desk rejuvenated.
It's great discussing Market Research and Marketing topics with him. We've had lots to analyse, debate and agree on. Recently when we met, we studied a questionnaire prepared by a summer intern from XYZ institute. We saw good points in it, debated over a part of the layout and suggested a few things that the fellow might've missed. We're both keen observers.
