Exams got over today (although Uni exams aren't far off). The last two weeks did fly and I gotta admit, the entire semester made us go through so much more than what the exams did. Post Nostalgia, it's just been a rollercoaster ride with subjects lined up day after day and books to sift through - one jam packed fortnight.
I will never understand a few things about the examinations - one of which I'll mention right now. How can people write on and on and on when there's not all that much to jot down in the answer paper? (in short .. writing a whole lot of gas)
Take for instance, this Market Research paper we took sometime last week. 3 questions - one 20 mark numerical which was unbelievably simple and two 25 mark questions of which one was complete theory (I can understand the expansion of points there) but.. the second one was an output from a research survey. Noting that such material is only objective and nothing more, I simply do not understand how several pairs of eyes stared at those who left the hall with half an hour or more to spare. It's one of those "Oh my God.. how can you leave NOW??" looks. How stupid. Someday I'd like to see what matter is impressed upon those sheets of paper. I'm pretty darn sure most people don't bother that they're writing the same thing over and over again in different ways.
Quality and not quantity is what matters. You may write 3 pages for an answer and he writes just one page - in point form. It sure does seem lacking but it's his articulate manner which reaps him the reward and not 4 points reiterated in multitudes. The worst part is people don't understand that. Rather, they don't want to I think. Over 80% of my classmates (throughout my academic years) have filled up the main answer sheet and appended one or two more for the icing. "Ma'm.. supplement please!"is like a foghorn. People glance up from their papers and sure enough, the competition worsens hereafter. In ten minutes you have an echo of extra supplement requests being hurled at the invigilator.
I wonder.. is the Indian student's mentality fixated towards a quantity strategy?

Exactly!
QSQT is what matters
(Q - Quantity)!!
Having never taken any supplements myself, I second that opinion!!!
agreee..
but the logic that guides ppl is the psychology of the examiner...
the more she sees more the chances of you getting a mark or 2 on each of those pages..
also, the 1 inch margin on both sides of the paper that some ppl make, eats up into the main supplement
Abbey Khamir....
Yeh kya tujhe Drawing ka exam laga kya
Red Blue Green pen leke exam likhata hai..
The peopl who check u r paper have also done the same..so no chance of getting extra mark for writing some shit!
Oye Khamir --
Your 1st point does not hold true. It's a mindset that has been instilled into our brains since we were kids and we need to get rid of that. In fact, thats the one issue I was referring to in the post.
Secondly, why in the world would someone make margins? Unless you spread your answer sheet while writing, a 'virtual' margin is created once you fold your sheet in half. I don't see any logic of that margin. You just need some discipline in how you fit words on that line -- one below the other at the ends.
super post dude :)
Well...to be honest it often depends on the examiner also. There r some people who wud dock ur maks for beatin around the bush n there r others who reward u for multiple page answers
Correctly said bhau...i mean of "OF-COURSSSSE" i am in total agreement with you on this fact.
hmm... it actually depends.. but.. point wise and crisp anwser.. would alwayz giv a good impression rather the mahabharat u write in multicolor!!!
yeah....i hav never done that margin thing in my life.....n i hate ppl fr doing it...presenting neat is fine....bt margins n stuff is absolute boot licking...n i simply dnt undrstnd having such a weightage fr examinations fr Marketing n HR students.....i mean its jst nt right..........u cnt differentiate between marketing guys based on wat crud u put on paper.....same goes fr HR.......i jst wish they change
hmmm... quite a few opinions... abt loong answers i dunno.. i guess they wanna explain the examiner ALL the fundas that they kno of right from ABC...
extra supplement??? well i can finish the main one and then wen ppl take and extra one I wonder do i not kno something or those ppl the ENCYCLOPEDIAS most of us can never be... in any case... exams are over all fun... full of energy, anxiety, anticipation and PANIC.. HAHAHAHA
i have tried myself...
filling in papers is an absolute bullcrap...!! it does not fetch extra marks, save university papers i guess!!!
i guess u just have to make ur point clear in the paper...
totally agree with the contents of the post ;)
Well Amol we need 2 understand what is the objective of writing paper ?
If 2 gain good numbers then understand who is the end user (Faculty) ? What he/She wants wants from all of us? and then write answer accordingly.Anvita has rightly said Student wants to right from ABC……I feel being Management Student we need 2 understand our faculty psychology and write accordingly .It is very easy 2 write what we know but it takes time 2 write what faculty wants out of us.
We need 2 understand faculty is quality conscious or quantity conscious....bcoz he is the end user.
