The latest gizmos find themselves in the hands of tech enthusiasts. Well, a majority of the instances that you spot one. Barring the one earlier today. I got on the bus and thumbed away at my keypad from the word go. A quick glance..and then I saw it.
It does have a distinctly visible screen. A large one. And with your fingers rolling all over the screen, it has to be the iPhone at work. But this was odd.
No one could miss the trademark earphones. Snow white coating. Yea, with the grey splodge on the earpiece heads, which channeled themselves into the ears of ...what was that..?.. a lady, seated with her back to me, up front and in the aisle seat. She looked to be in her late 40's. Wow, I thought. Some enthusiast.
Without a telling note, I hoped, I moved closer to the iPhone possessor. Her head was nodding slightly, in rhythm with the beat of her active playlist. I was kinda awed by the scene - I don't think very many middle aged mothers would dig an iPhone. Except of course, that city up north. Yes, they'd go all out.
It was too tempting. So I had a closer look. She was drafting a mail body with her fingers tapping away at the virtual keyboard. An Airtel sub, as the network signal suggested on the display. And so I inquired into her novelty mobile piece. She stared back, stunned for a second but recovered and replied with "Oh yes, it surely is a fine gadget." And with that, the earphones slid back into the intended grooves. Finito. End of convo.
I guess she wasn't comfortable with my enquiries about the phone's performance. Maybe she couldnt find and express her thrill in a natural flow.
Remember - she must've paid a fat wad to secure that ware.
